Harvey Waterman Medal of Excellence

Named in honor of Harvey L. Waterman, who served Rutgers graduate students for over 40 years as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Harvey Waterman Medal of Excellence celebrates exceptional scholarly achievements across the humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
Award Criteria
  • Exceptional achievements in academic research and scholarship
  • Significance of research to a given field of study
  • Track record of academic and professional excellence 
Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must have received a doctoral degree or have a PhD defense date scheduled between May 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018.
  • Doctoral students must also be working with a dissertation advisor who holds a primary appointment in a non-RBHS school (Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy, Graduate School of Education, School of Arts and Sciences, School of Communication & Information, School of Environmental & Biological Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Management & Labor Relations, School of Social Work)
The winner of the Harvey Waterman Medal of Excellence will receive a special medal, $750, and a commemorative plaque at our annual Awards Ceremony. 
Applications may be submitted for more than one SGS academic/merit award. However, applicants may only receive one award total.
Application deadlines and procedures will be announced in January 2018.
