Corinne Noirot-MaguireAfter completing the equivalent of a master’s degree in Grenoble, France, Corinne Noirot-Maguire came to Rutgers under our cotutelle arrangement to work with Francois Cornilliat on a joint degree. Says Francois, speaking of his 17 years here, “in terms of insight and sheer analytical brilliance, she remains matchless...Corinne Noirot is without a doubt the best student I have encountered since I became a literature professor....Corinne’s thesis will be the first general analysis of plain style rhetoric ever produced on French Renaissance poetry; it is hard to overestimate its importance for our studies.” In particular, “plain style served a larger ethical agenda, developing alternatives to pomp, circumstance, and authority...” “Her first submission ever was immediately accepted at the MLA—a rare honor.” Ms. Noirot-Maguire was the only student of French studies to receive a Charlotte Newcombe fellowship last year. |
