Thomas J. MolnarThomas J. Molnar is a tree-breeder working on genetic improvements, in particular, of ornamental nut trees. He has made progress in developing hazelnut trees that are resistant to Eastern Filbert Disease, their principal threat. He has also made trips to collect specimens in Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Molnar's is co-director of a large-scale research program run by his department. Mr. Molnar's program director notes that fruit trees are one of New Jersey's major crops and Mr. Molnar’s work is certain to benefit the state economy. |
