Kathleen Lubey

“Without any exaggeration,” writes Kurt Spellmeyer, director of the Writing Program, “the most difficult assignment in undergraduate English is the teaching of English 100, Basic Composition.” Since 2001 Kathleen Lubey has tackled multiple sections of this course with student results that are nothing less than spectacular, all the while maintaining an ambitious research agenda with high-profile conference presentations. “Kathy is absolutely brilliant in the 100 classroom,” writes one English faculty member. Indeed, Lubey’s scores are consistently high, up through a perfect 5.0. Her student's comments are among the fullest and most thoughtful the selection committee has ever seen. One student confessed, “If I find out that I need to take Expos Writing II, I would give anything to have you as my teacher.” Another summed up the feelings of many students regarding Lubey’s teaching thusly: “It has completely changed the way I read, write and think; it has improved my work tremendously.”
