Mary Beth GordonA student of equine exercise physiology, Mary Beth Gordon has been the TA for Animal Nutrition, Research in Animal Science, and Microtechniques and Tissue Culture. But in addition to these traditional courses, for which she has received rave reviews and high student evaluation marks, Gordon has co-authored an online web course on Horse Management. A faculty member states that “Mary Beth is extremely focused and organized, and she used these skills to develop and manage a huge project (on equine nutrition and exercise physiology) that would be difficult for many senior researchers.” Namely, she was PI and wrote three separate grant proposals that were funded for over $100,000. The faculty member adds that for this project Ms. Gordon “used her teaching and interpersonal skills to organize and motivate more than 30 undergraduate students into an effective research team.” Mary Beth Gordon’s energy and initiative extend yet further. Gordon has been active in the TA Project, developing a best practices workshop for students in several graduate programs in the sciences. She has also educated numerous students from pony clubs and various youth groups visiting the Agricultural Museum and various Cook College farms. “The kids are all potential future Rutgers students”, observes a faculty member, “and from the looks on their faces, they are yet another group that has seen benefit from Ms. Gordon’s dedication and teaching effectiveness.” |
