Craig J. Fennie
(Physics and Astronomy)

Understanding the Interplay of Lattice and Magnetic Degrees of Freedom in
Structurally Complex Insulators from First Principles.

Understanding the properties of materials that display magnetism continues to be a challenge. Mr. Fennie has made remarkable contributions to understanding the electronic structure of multiferroics, materials that are simultaneously ferromagnetic and ferroelectric. To quote his references, he displays “off-scale talent” and his “highly creative work [is] worthy of a senior research scientist.”
