Vladimir A. Aksyuk![]() Vladimir Aksyuk made his first contributions to micro-electronic-mechanical systems (MEMS) as a graduate student, publishing in Science and Nature. At Bell Labs he developed the micro-mirror array, a core component of a new optical switching network. This device enables optical communication signals to be manipulated without converting them into electrical pulses and back again. His more recent enhancements are critical to enabling precise control of laser beams, which is particularly important for military communication and space vehicle applications. |
